In 2023, we saw another increase in the number of events presented in our spaces, with 258 performances in the Theatre Royal and the Studio Theatre, a 15 percent increase on 2022.
In total, 67,376 people attended performances and events, which was a 22 percent increase on 2021 and the highest attendance since 2017.
2021 marked a year of transition and new beginnings for the Theatre Royal.
Although the Theatre remained closed for the majority of 2020, 17,520 patrons attended the 52 performances held at the theatre in 2020.
2019 saw the highest average attendance for Theatre Royal presented productions for many years.
We eagerly anticipate the hand back of the heritage Theatre Royal spaces to the Board for us to recommence presentation of shows to our loyal audiences.
There is an air of excitement around the Theatre as the development, on the site next door picks up pace.

The landmark moment of 2012 for the Theatre was the joint announcement by the Premier and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Tasmania of the successful application for funding to enable the development of the Wapping Parcel 4 site adjacent to the Theatre to proceed.
