University of Tasmania presents

2024 Ossa Music Prize

Fri 26 Jul 2024 5:30 pm
Ian Potter Recital Hall at The Hedberg

Join us at The Hedberg for the final round, public concert and award ceremony for the University of Tasmania's 2024 Ossa Music Prize, featuring performances from our student finalists. The 2024 prize and People's Choice Award will be awarded at the end of the evening.

Established in 2018 and named after Tasmania’s highest mountain peak, the Ossa Music Prize is generously provided by Dr Rod Roberts, alumnus of the University of Tasmania, and Mrs Cecile Roberts. The prize supports a graduate or an undergraduate student (and/or an ensemble) in pursuing excellence in musicianship and performance, and underwrites a state-wide performance tour to Devonport, Ulverstone, Launceston, Swansea and Hobart and will include a performance in Queenstown in memory of Margaret Stoermer, thanks to the support provided by her family.

About the Ossa Music Prize

Marie Edwards Art Gift – to raise funds for Marie Edwards Travelling Art Scholarship

The late Marie Edwards, a graduate of the Tasmanian School of Art, donated a number of her art works to the University of Tasmania to fund a travelling scholarship enabling postgraduate visual arts students to gain experience overseas to complement their university studies.

During her ascent in the 1970s she was one of the few women artists in the State working seriously in the area of abstraction. She is ranked amongst Tasmania's finest female artists and is listed on the Tasmanian Honour Roll of Women.

In celebration of Marie’s art, and to further bolster the scholarship offered in her memory, a display of her remaining works will be shown at The Hedberg, Hobart, on 26 July, following the Ossa Prize final judging performances. The artworks will be available for purchase on the night, with proceeds going directly to the Marie Edwards Travelling Scholarship
