ANTIGO NICK
‘We begin in the dark, and birth is the death of us.’
Loyalty is tested as a powerful family is torn apart by grief, guilt, shame and duty, when dire choices between legality and morality are forced upon them. A proud, arrogant, megalomaniacal king buts heads with a strong, defiant woman and although his power over her is absolute, he must ultimately pay a terrible price for his actions.
Enter Antigone, a young woman fighting against an institution for what she believes is right. Antigone, is based on the story of the daughter of Oedipus and her battle to bury her brother. In this translation Antigo Nick by Anne Carson, the story is reimagined through the rich history of storytelling that Antigone has inspired. In this retelling our translator forbids that Antigone should ever ‘lose her screams’.
This production will be scored and performed by 3rd year Theatre and Performance students. Antigo Nick will be performed in reverse on the Main Stage Theatre at the Theatre Royal.
