Build a Bug Workshop

with Dr Shasta Henry
Thu 11 Jul 2024 12:30 pm
Vanessa Goodwin Room Level 4

This event is sold out, but a waitlist is available.

This July, as part of our Staycation school holiday program, Dr Shasta Henry (aka The Bug Doctor) will be running an engaging workshop for children aged 6 -12 years to share her passion for insects, extinction awareness and creativity!

Participants will learn the story of three insect species from the islands of Tasmania, Lord Howe and Hawaii, and their different levels of extinction. Choosing one of these species, participants will design and create their very own puppet, made out of recycled craft materials.

Workshop attendees will be encouraged to use their puppet to teach and motivate others to help conserve endangered animal species and will be welcome to take their creations home with them.

Dr Shasta Henry, the Bug Doctor, is a passionate adventurer, entomologist and educator. She has named beetles from the Amazon (and has one species named after her), guided white water rafts in Canada and once crocheted a hot air balloon!

Please note, this workshop will take place at the Theatre Royal on Level 4, in the Vanessa Goodwin Room.

This workshop is presented as part of the Theatre Royal’s Staycation school holiday program and aligns with the themes in the production of ARC by Erth happening at the Theatre Royal from the 10 – 12 July.

Participants will be emailed a discount code to receive $5 off tickets to see ARC by Erth.
