Using the Arts in Early Childhood Environmental Education
Using the Arts in Early Childhood Environmental Education
A presentation from Dr. Jayne Osgood
This lecture weaves a web of alternative thinking and being, that lies outside the traditional structures that shape our early childhood classrooms. Through an arts-based research project with four-year-old children, the research examines everyday encounters to rethink child development and environmental education.
Key themes include
- Challenging human exceptionalism and embracing ‘unlearning’
- Language, representation and exclusion
- Noticing and attuning to everyday wonders
- Valuing neurodivergent perspectives and sensitivities
These themes are interwoven to highlight the potential of rejecting the conventional approach of the ‘thought out project’.
